Abstract

Dengue virus infection continues to be a significant health issue in the Indonesian pediatric population, with a high risk of rapid progression to critical stages. Early identification of clinical and laboratory profiles is crucial for optimal management. This descriptive observational study aimed to determine the clinical and laboratory profiles of pediatric dengue patients hospitalized at Sidikalang Regional General Hospital from September to December 2024. A cross-sectional approach was used, analyzing retrospective medical records of pediatric patients aged 1–18 years diagnosed with dengue. Variables analyzed included age, gender, day of fever at admission, hospitalization length, warning signs, and hematological parameters, particularly platelet counts. The study included 24 patients, with equal gender distribution (50% male, 50% female). Most cases occurred in 7- and 8-year-olds (12.5% each). Patients typically arrived on the 3rd to 5th day of fever, with the peak on day 4 (37.5%). The average hospitalization was 4 days. Warning signs were present in 58.3% of patients and correlated with longer stays. At the beginning of treatment, 66.7% had thrombocytopenia, but by the end, 58.3% had normal platelets, showing hematological improvement. Early detection and continuous clinical and hematological monitoring are critical to prevent deterioration and optimize hospitalization duration.
