Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily affects the lungs and results in inflammation of the lung parenchyma. Treatment adherence plays a critical role in the successful management and eradication of TB. This study aims to determine the effect of Drug Supervisory Officer (Pengawas Minum Obat/PMO) interventions on the success of tuberculosis treatment by evaluating patient medication adherence. The study employed a quantitative design using the Medication Adherence Report Scale (MARS-5) instrument, which was administered to both TB patients and their respective PMOs to measure adherence levels. A total of 50 patients participated in the study. The results of the paired t-test analysis showed a significance value (p-value) of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant effect of PMO intervention on treatment success. PMOs with good performance were associated with high patient adherence, with 48 patients (96%) being compliant with their medication schedules, while PMOs with poor performance were linked to only 2 patients (4%) who were non-compliant. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon test also revealed a significance value (p-value) of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a strong relationship between PMO performance and patient adherence. These findings underscore the importance of PMO roles in ensuring treatment success and preventing drug resistance. Strengthening the capacity and involvement of PMOs in TB control programs can contribute significantly to improving treatment outcomes and achieving national TB eradication goals. Additionally, regular monitoring, motivation, and education provided by PMOs enhance patient engagement and reduce the risk of treatment dropout, which is crucial in long-term infectious disease management and public health improvement, especially in resource-limited settings.
