This case study aims to explore the application of lavender aromatherapy inhalation in reducing anxiety in elderly individuals living in families within the Puskesmas Srondol Semarang service area. A descriptive case study method was used with two subjects selected based on inclusion criteria of ages 60-74, experiencing mild to moderate anxiety (VAS-A scores 1-6), and exclusion criteria including visual impairment, use of anxiety medication, respiratory disorders, and lavender allergies. The intervention involved administering lavender aromatherapy inhalation twice daily for three consecutive days, each lasting 20 minutes. Anxiety levels were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale-Anxiety (VAS-A) before and after the intervention. The results showed a reduction in anxiety levels in both subjects. The first subject’s anxiety decreased from mild (VAS-A 3) to nearly none (VAS-A 1), while the second subject’s anxiety decreased from moderate (VAS-A 5) to mild (VAS-A 3). Both elderly individuals responded positively to the intervention and felt more relaxed. In conclusion, lavender aromatherapy inhalation is effective in reducing anxiety in elderly individuals within family settings and can serve as an easy-to-implement non-pharmacological alternative for families.
