Background: Aging begins early in life and leads to a decline in bodily functions, making older adults more vulnerable to conditions such as hypertension. In Indonesia the elderly population is steadily growing, with the majority of them aged 60-69 years. Hypertension (high blood pressure) can cause complications in the heart, kidneys, and brain and also affect the psychological and social well-being of seniors. Management of hypertension may be pharmacological (medical) or non-pharmacological. One effective non-drug approach is progressive muscle relaxation. This technique helps lower blood pressure, relieve muscle tension, and reduce anxiety, and it is favored because it has few side effects and is low-cost. Objective: To determine the impact of progressive muscle relaxation on blood pressure reduction in elderly individuals with hypertension. Method: a case-study design was used, involving three elderly clients diagnosed with hypertension, who received progressive muscle relaxation therapy over three days. Results: After three days of progressive muscle relaxation therapy, Client I reported reduced dizziness and a decrease in blood pressure to 157/90 mmHg, Client II to 177/88 mmHg, and Client III to 168/84 mmHg. Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation appears to be effective in reducing blood pressure, as evidenced by the blood pressure results before and after the intervention. Recommendation: It is suggested that community health centers can apply progressive muscle relaxation to elderly individuals with hypertensio.
